Sarah Washington Murder was depicted in the crime documentary, Murder In The Heartland.
In June 2014, Kankakee, Illinois native and aspiring model Sarah Washington, 25, was fatally shot inside her apartment.
Before another murder helped identify the perpetrator, the authorities were initially hampered by a lack of evidence.
The heartbreaking tale of Sarah’s death and how her killer was ultimately found guilty was revealed in Investigation Discovery’s incredibly intriguing true-crime documentary, Murder In The Heartland.
The seventh episode of the fourth season of Murder In The Heartland, Whispered Warnings, detailed the murder of Sarah Washington. It was broadcast on Investigation Discovery on May 2, 2022. The episode lasted for 60 minutes.
25-year-old Kankakee, Illinois, resident DeAngelo, and Kathy Washington’s eldest child was named Sarah.
A rising model, Sarah participated in several community fashion shows to benefit charities. She also has a contract for professional modeling.
In addition to modeling, Sarah worked diligently as an employee at a hospital and was about to begin employment at a veterans’ home.
The bright young lady also intended to enroll in nursing school.
Her promising future was unfortunately cut short when she was the victim of a horrifying incident that occurred in her flat.
Sarah’s mother, Kathy, picked her up and drove her to work on June 26, 2014. To her amazement, however, she discovered Sarah dead with two gunshot wounds to the head lying against the bedroom wall.
The 380-caliber shot casings were present at the crime site when the police arrived. Even though there was no forced entrance, one of the pillows was covered in blood and bullet wounds.
The police began investigating the case.
The authorities first held Sarah’s boyfriend, Greg Dismuke, as the primary suspect since he was supposedly cheating on her.
But he was removed from the suspect list since there was insufficient proof against him.
Greg claimed that Rex had requested some cash in addition to obtaining a firearm. He added that Rex had called him later in the evening to report that there were police at Sarah’s apartment, which was taped off.
Rex was originally very cooperative when the authorities questioned him. Officers did learn that Rex similarly called another person.
A few days later, Rian Maiden, 36, was killed after being shot twice in the head in July 2014. This shooting shocked the neighborhood.
After conversing with Greg the morning after the murder, Rex lied to the authorities about what he did.
Despite his first claim to have returned home, security footage from a restaurant saw him pulling into the parking lot.
Later, due to the fact that the bullet shells found at Rian’s murder scene matched those fired from the weapon used to kill Sarah Washington, officials were able to link Rex to the crime.
In July 2015, Rex admitted to Rian’s first-degree murder despite being mentally ill and was given a 45-year prison term.
He stated that he had post-traumatic stress disorder after surviving a bungled robbery in April 2014.
Rex allegedly shot one of the males involved in the confrontation. Rex, who was 26 at the time of the short trial in March 2019, was found guilty of killing Sarah.
As a result, he received a life sentence.
According to documents, Rex Frank was given a life sentence in March 2019 and is currently incarcerated at the Menard Correctional Center in Randolph County, Illinois.
