In 2013 it was reported that McDowell and his co-host Bob Sturm, would defect to the rival station KRLD-FM following receiving a much larger contract. In the end, McDowell kept his position on with The Ticket, citing the host-host chemistry and the any damage that could be caused by the station to be the reasons to stay.
McDowell has a home in the Dallas Fort Worth area of Southlake, Texas with his wife Kathy and his two children Eva (18-19) as well as Eden ( fifteen).
